Manitoulin Streams Island-Wide Garbage Cleanup Event

This April we put on our 3rd annual Island-Wide Garbage Cleanup Event which is full of fun competitions and even has trophies and awards that are donated by local businesses! This year we had our most participants yet with 623 people getting out across all of Manitoulin Island to collect 485 bags of garbage from 158 km of roadsides, shorelines, and streams. We had participants collect trash from 7 different Townships and 3 First Nation's Reservations with several communities such as Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory hosting BBQ's in association with the event. The winners of this years trophies were as follows: School Cleanup Award - Assiginack Public School, Community Cleanup Award - North Eastern Manitoulin and the Islands, Business Cleanup Award - The Little Current United Church. A special shoutout also goes out to several young ladies from NEMI, Jordyn and Brooklyn who together picked up trash over 13 days in the month of April!
